Repeater Port Forwarding

Posted by A.J. Farmer on

Q: Can I configure port forwarding on my repeater to allow remote access to a device on my network such as a security camera?

A: The repeater firmware does not support port forwarding.  It is meant for outbound internet access only.  Even if it did support port forwarding, you would also have to configure port forwarding on the source WiFi router that you have connected your repeater to and it is unlikely the source WiFi owner is going to be willing to do this.

A solution that will work for remote access to security cameras through the repeater is to use a camera that uploads its video feed to a cloud server on the Internet and you access that video feed to see the pictures.  These types of cameras will work because it does not require any port forwarding or special configuration.  An example of this type of camera is an “Arlo” brand camera.
