Unable to update XR or XR PLUS firmware due to older firmware version

Posted by A.J. Farmer on

If you are trying to update your XR or XR PLUS firmware and your browser will not let you bypass the security warning, you need to update the firmware via TFTP.  This is a technically advanced procedure, do so at your own risk.  Alternatively, contact us to send your device to us for updating.

Download the appropriate firmware update file for the device you are updating:
PICO or BULLET FIRMWARE FILE (outside antenna)

AIRGATEWAY FIRMWARE FILE (inside AP)

Put the device in bootloader mode:

  • Start with the device powered off
  • Hold down the reset button on the device (not on the POE injector)
  • Plug in the device to power it on, still holding the reset
  • Continue holding the reset until the lights flash in an alternating fashion (about 30 seconds) and then you can release the reset button
  • The lights should continue to flash

Send the firmware file to the device:

  • Set the Ethernet port of your computer to a static IP of 192.168.1.21
  • Open a Windows command prompt and navigate to your downloads folder (the location of the firmware file)
  • Type in the following command:
  • tftp -i 192.168.1.20 put <firmware file>
  • Replace <firmware file> with the filename of the firmware file
  • The device will accept the firmware file and reboot

You can now proceed with applying a configuration file to your device

AIRGATEWAY CONFIGURATION FILE UPDATE

PICO or BULLET CONFIGURATION FILE UPDATE
