How to reset and recover the XR or XR Plus WiFi Repeater

A reset and reload of your repeater should be the last resort option.  If you have already reset your repeater or you wish to reset and reload your repeater to factory settings, here are the instructions to reload the factory default settings.

This procedure must be performed with a computer (Windows or MAC).  It is not possible to do this procedure with a smartphone or tablet.

Step One: Download the necessary firmware and configuration files and save them to your computer.  Click on the links below and save them to your computer (do not open).

Outside antenna configuration file (PICO or BULLET)

Inside access point configuration file (AIRGATEWAY)

Step Two: Set up your computer with a static IP address of 192.168.1.21 in order to apply programming

Step Three: Program your Airgateway

  1. Remove the wall mount bracket from the AirGateway
  2. While the unit is powered on, using a paper clip, press and hold the AirGateway reset button on the back of the POE Injector for 15 seconds and release
  3. Connect to the WiFi network named www.ubnt.com
  4. Set your WiFi Network Interface to a static IP address of 192.168.1.21 – click here for more detailed information -> WINDOWS  MAC OS X
  5. Open your web browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 You may get a warning that the page is not secure. It is okay to proceed.  If you are unable to bypass the warning page, you will need to use an older browser and update your firmware.  Instructions here.  If you get “page cannot be displayed”, double check you have set your static address correctly in step 3
  6. Enter username: ubnt password: ubnt  Select your country, check the box to agree to terms, and click “Login”
  7. You will see “Welcome to the airGateway setup Wizard”  Click “Cancel”
  8. Wait 30 seconds.  The airGateway is now rebooting
  9. Verify you are still connected to the WiFi network named www.ubnt.com  You may have been disconnected when the airGateway rebooted
  10. Click on the System Tab
  11. You will see an orange box stating that using a default Administrator password.  Click Dismiss
  12. Near the bottom right, look for “Upload Configuration”
  13. Click the “Choose File” button and select the “AIRGATEWAY.cfg” that you downloaded in step 1
  14. Click the “Upload” button
  15. At the top right, click “Apply”
  16. The update of the Airgateway is now complete.  Close your web browser.

Step Four: Program your Outside Antenna (PICO or BULLET)

  1. Disconnect all cables from the AIRGATEWAY (indoor unit)
  2. Separate the AIRGATEWAY from the POE injector by removing the wall mounting bracket and snapping the two pieces apart.  Set the AIRGATEWAY and wall mounting bracket aside for now.
  3. Connect the power to the POE Injector, and connect the black cable from the PICO to the port marked POE on the POE Injector
  4. Wait 30 seconds for the PICO/BULLET to power up
  5. Using a paper clip, press and hold the reset button on the back of the POE Injector for 15 seconds and release
  6. Reassemble the POE Injector and AirGateway, push together hard until they click together
  7. Connect the black Ethernet cable from the outside antenna to the POE port on the Airgateway
  8. Connect to your repeater’s private WiFi network “jefatech-repeater” 
  9. Open your web browser and go to http://192.168.1.20 – if this page will not display, double check you have set your static address correctly in step 3.
  10. Enter username: ubnt password: ubnt  Select your country, check the box to agree to terms, and click “Login”
  11. Click on the System Tab
  12. You will see an orange box stating that using a default Administrator password.  Click Dismiss
  13. Near the bottom right, look for “Upload Configuration”
  14. Click the “Choose File” button and select the “PICOM2.cfg” that you downloaded in step 1
  15. Click the “Upload” button
  16. At the top right, click “Apply”
  17. The update is now complete.  Close your web browser.
  18. Set your WiFi Network Interface back to a dynamic DHCP IP address – click here for more detailed information -> WINDOWS  MAC OS X
  19. You should now be able to use your Repeater XR as normal.  Connect to the WiFi network named "jefatech-repeater" and open the configuration page at http://192.168.123.1
